The Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria parliamentary group has begun collecting signatures for the resignation of National Assembly Chair Raya Nazaryan, Continue the Change (CC) Chair Assen Vassilev said on Bulgarian National Television’s morning show on Wednesday. The reason, he added, is that she is “refusing to comply with the law.”
“We have also submitted other amendments to the National Protection Service Act, which would further limit the possibility for [MRF – New Beginning Floor Leader Delyan] Peevski and [GERB-UDF Floor Leader Boyko] Borissov to have security — only in the event of martial law,” Vassilev said. He added that National Assembly Chair Nazaryan has been delaying the distribution of the proposals to parliamentary committees for six days now, instead of three as required by the rules of procedure. “Yesterday she sent a letter saying she would not distribute them for consideration in committees because the amendments were essentially the same, but they are not,” the CC chair explained.
According to him, Nazaryan is protecting Borissov and Peevski in this way because she knows there is a majority in favor of these amendments. “We have two weeks left in this parliament — at least let us accomplish one good thing. The money spent on the security of Borissov and Peevski is enough to build two kindergartens,” Vassilev added.
