Traicho Traikov has been nominated for caretaker Minister of Energy in the proposed Gurov cabinet. Caretaker prime minister-designate, Andrey Gurov, presented the proposed government lineup to President Iliana Iotova earlier on Wednesday.
Traikov is currently Mayor of Sofia's Sredets district. Before his election as mayor, he served as a municipal councilor in the Sofia Municipal Council, and worked as a financial and strategic consultant and entrepreneur, according to the Sredets district website. From 2009 to 2012, he was minister of economy, energy, and tourism, and prior to that, he was a member of the management team of the energy company EVN Bulgaria.
Earlier in his career, Traikov worked on merger and acquisition projects, post-merger integration, market development, equity investments, venture capital, and related areas in various Central and Eastern European countries, at Central Europe Trust and Roland Berger.
He graduated in International Economic Relations from the University of National and World Economy and previously attended the English Language High School in Sofia. He has completed international specializations in financial analysis, controlling, public-private partnerships, project management, and other fields.
Traikov speaks English, Russian, German, and Romanian. He is married with two children.
