Competing for Bulgaria, skier Anina Zurbriggen finished 47th in the first run of the women’s alpine slalom at the 2026 Winter Olympics on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old Olympic debutant, whose mother is Bulgarian but who was born and lives in Switzerland, completed the course in 52.73 seconds.

Leading at the midway point of the competition was the gold medallist in the discipline from 2014 Winter Olympics, Mikaela Shiffrin (USA).

The four-time world champion Shiffrin, 30, who has seven wins in eight slalom races this season in the World Cup, finished in 47.13 seconds and built a solid lead of 0.82 seconds over Germany’s Lena Duerr.
