Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports Dimitar Iliev attended the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics and watched the performance of biathletes Lora Hristova and Milena Todorova in the 12.5 km mass start on Saturday, the press office of Iliev's Ministry said.
Hristova finished 14th, while Todorova came in 20th. After the race, Iliev met with the athletes and their coaching teams, congratulating them on their strong performances and consistent work throughout the Olympic cycle.
At the Milano Cortina Games, Hristova won a bronze medal in the individual event, and Todorova placed fourth in the sprint.
“I am confident that we will succeed in providing even better conditions for Bulgarian athletes — both for our established competitors and for the young talents of Bulgaria. When they are properly supported and have the peace of mind to focus on their training, they achieve successes that the whole nation is proud of,” Iliev said.
He identified stable and long-term support for Bulgarian athletes as one of his top priorities.
The Minister will also attend the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games on Sunday.
