A queue of freight trucks stretching roughly 30 kilometers has formed on the Maritsa Motorway leading to the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing with Turkiye - from the checkpoint entrance all the way to the Lyubimets interchange, Ivan Rasokov, head of the Traffic Police sector at the Haskovo Regional Directorate of the Interior, told BTA.
The two-lane line of trucks is typical for this time of year, Rasokov explained, citing the increased volume of transport in the run-up to the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Alongside the motorway police, several other services are assisting with security and traffic management: patrols from the police station in Lyubimets, the Svilengrad regional unit, Border Police, the gendarmerie, and the Migration Service.
On Tuesday, the queue was the scene of an incident in which a 42-year-old Serbian truck driver ignored a police order, acted aggressively, and knocked a junior inspector from the Svilengrad police department to the ground.
