The Council of Ministers is putting forward the nominations of 19 new ambassadors and a permanent representative to the UN, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev said at Wednesday's cabinet meeting. "I'm glad that the ambassadorial appointments are going ahead, whereby the Government ensures continuity in the diplomatic service," he commented.
In the Minister's words, these appointments should have been coordinated back at the beginning of the year. He said that the Government has complied with all provisions of the Constitution and the law, and the 20 nominees are highly qualified career diplomats. "I don't think that the diplomatic service should be hostage to domestic attempts at usurping powers and abusing procedure because this is the face we present to the world and this is the way our partners see us. The most solid and consolidated we are, the more authoritative we are in our partners' perception," Georgiev pointed out.
