President Rumen Radev arrived in Germany on Wednesday for a two-day visit to the country. Later in the day, the head of State will attend the opening of a new high-tech factory of the German company Rheinmetall at the invitation of the company's CEO Armin Papperger.

The plant, located in Unterlüß, will produce 155 mm shells in accordance with NATO standards. The investment is worth over EUR 500 million, according to German media reports.

The official opening will also be attended by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, and German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Rheinmetall will participate in the construction of two plants in Bulgaria. One will be for the production of gunpowder and the other for shells, with a total investment of over EUR 1 billion.

Rheinmetall is one of Europe's largest defense companies, with operating profits reaching a record high of nearly EUR 1.5 billion in 2024, an increase of 61% over the previous year.
