site.btaTransport Minister Points to Low Pay, Staffing Problems, Underused Technology at Bulgarian Posts

The state of Bulgarian Posts requires consistent measures to make better use of resources, introduce new technologies and improve working conditions, Transport and Communications Minister Georgi Peev said after visiting the company's main sorting centre in Sofia, his Ministry reported on Tuesday.

Peev said some of the company's equipment is not being used efficiently and working conditions need improvement. He highlighted low pay, difficulties in retaining and recruiting staff, and insufficient use of technology for operations that are still performed manually.

The Minister also called for further efforts to attract customers and increase Bulgarian Posts' own revenue. He said the company could generate additional income through more efficient management of its properties, including by renting some of them out.

During a meeting with employees at the sorting centre, proposals included installing POS terminals at post offices and introducing more modern barcode scanners. Employees also raised the need for adequate staffing and higher pay.

Peev also visited the post office in Chelopech. The Ministry said the visits were part of preparations for measures to improve the efficiency of Bulgarian Posts, modernize its operations and improve the quality of its services.
