At its regular meeting on Wednesday, the Council of Ministers approved Amendment 2 to the Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) BU-P-AAD “Sidewinder AIM 9X Block II Missiles, associated material and services”, under the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme.

The Amendment does not alter the cost of the LOA BU-D-SAB "F-16 Block 70 Aircraft and associated support", signed in 2019.

With this decision, the Government proposes that the National Assembly ratify the agreement, based on Article 85 of the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria.

Once it enters into force, under the terms of the International Treaties of the Republic of Bulgaria Act, Amendment 2 to LOA BU-P-AAD will enable the optimizing of the implementation of the signed agreement for the delivery of F-16 Block 70 aircraft air-to-air missiles from the US without any increase in Bulgaria’s financial obligations.

In a separate decision, the Council of Ministers approved LOA BU-P-LBL, “Military GPS Module Supporting M-Code”, under the US FMS programme. The Government also proposes that the National Assembly ratify the agreement, based on Article 85 of the Constitution.

This LOA is related to the implementation of the updated investment project, a priority for the Defence Ministry, "Acquisition of a Multirole Modular Patrol Vessel for the Bulgarian Navy". With its application, the newly constructed multirole modular patrol vessels for the Bulgarian Navy will acquire reliable and jam-resistant satellite navigation, through the installation of military GPS modules supporting M-code on board.
