The Bat World Bulgaria Foundation will organize a workshop on Saturday in the Borisova Gradina Park in Sofia on what people should do when they find an injured bat, the organizers said on Wednesday.

There will be information stands with interesting facts about bats, as well as educational games. A walk with a so-called bat-detector device will take place at the beginning of the event, with those present able to hear the sounds of bats through the special device.

The event will be held as part of the initiatives of the international organization EUROBATS, which aims to present more information about bats, as they are one of the most interesting and important, but often misunderstood animals, the organizers said. The goal of the event is to show people that bats are completely harmless, protected by law and vital for nature, as every night they destroy thousands of insects and thus maintain the balance in ecosystems, Bat World Bulgaria emphasized.

The International Night of Bats will take place in the night between August 30 and 31. It has been celebrated since 1997 on the last weekend of August in more than 30 countries and is the initiative of the countries that signed the Agreement for the Conservation of Bat Populations in Europe (EUROBATS) on December 4, 1991.
