Bulgarian artist Vesela Velichkova presented her first exhibition in Ankara on Tuesday. The exhibition, held at the Akdora Art Gallery, features 25 portraits and conveys the message that we should look more closely into people's eyes. Velichkova's art will be on display until February 18.
The artist moved to Ankara in early September 2025, having spent seven years in Skopje. She relocated to the Turkish capital with her family when her husband was appointed to the European Union Delegation to Turkiye.
"As soon as I arrived, I decided to find out how I could continue holding exhibitions. Step by step, I ended up at this gallery," she told BTA.
The portraits that form the theme of her first exhibition in Ankara, are described by the event organizer as modern, biblical and traditional, with eyes that say more than words.
"People are not always open about what they think, but the eyes never lie. Even if we try to wear masks and pretend to be someone else, our soul speaks through our eyes and that cannot be hidden," said the artist about her portraits.
