Five-minute applause, shouts of "Bravo", one encore, and a standing ovation followed the first concert of Ekaterine Buachidze in Sofia. The packed Bulgaria Hall welcomed the winner of the Operalia World Opera Competition, who performed a recital with the Sofia Philharmonic under the baton of maestro Nayden Todorov.
The 23-year-old Georgian singer, who has the eyes of the entire opera world pinned on her, is eager to work again with the conductor and orchestra who contributed to her success, according to the Philharmonic’s team.
For her concert, Buachidze had chosen arias from operas by Gioachino Rossini (Rosina from The Barber of Seville and Desdemona from Otello); Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Sesto from La clemenza di Tito); Tchaikovsky (None but the Lonely Heart from Six Romances); Jules Massenet (Charlotte from Werther); Charles Gounod (Siebel from Faust); as well as two arias from Carmen by Georges Bizet.
The encore was a repeat performance of the Habanera aria.
