Half of Bulgarians aged 16 to 24 used generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools in 2025, according to a new Eurostat study made public Tuesday.  EU-wide, the share is 63.8%.

The share of AI users in this age group is nearly twice as high as among the general population (32.7%).

Young people in the EU use generative AI in various areas of life. It is most commonly used for personal needs (44.2%), up from 25.1% among the general population. Also, they are more likely to use AI for formal education: 39.3% do so against 9.4% among the general population.

The share of those using AI in their work is almost equal in the 16-to-24 and the 16-to-74 groups: 15.8% vs. 15.1%. 

AI tools are most widely used in Greece (83.5%) and Estonia (82.8%). At the opposite end are Romania (44.1%), Italy (47.2%) and Poland (49.3%). 

The 50% place Bulgaria fourth with the use of AI by the 16-to-24-year-olds.
