The prosecution service said here Tuesday that acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov and the Director of the Public Financial Inspection Agency (PFIA), Lyudmila Petkova, have signed a cooperation agreement between the two institutions.
The agreement provides for strengthening operational cooperation in countering abuses in the use of public funds and violations of the legislation governing the award and execution of public procurement contracts.
The two institutions will continue to exchange information in a timely manner and coordinate their actions in cases where evidence of a crime has been established.
In their joint work, the prosecution service and the PFIA will provide opinions on proposed legislative amendments concerning the protection of public financial interests and public procurement procedures, as well as information on identifying risk areas for corruption, fraud and violations affecting public finances, including those of the European Union. Regular bilateral meetings are planned, and training sessions may be organized if necessary.
The agreement confirms both sides’ commitment to closer cooperation in order to uphold the rule of law and ensure the effective use of public resources.
