Customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on the border with Turkiye seized nearly six kilograms of marijuana concealed in a car’s gas cylinder, the Customs Agency said Wednesday.

On August 25, 2025, a Bulgarian-registered Audi, driven by a Bulgarian citizen traveling alone to Turkiye, was selected for a thorough inspection. An X-ray scan and a sniffer dog indicated the presence of contraband in a gas cylinder installed in the luggage compartment. The cylinder was dismantled and 47 packages of marijuana were found.

The drugs weighed 5.9 kg and were valued at BGN 94,400 (EUR 48,266).

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor’s Office, the statement said.
