site.btaVazrazhdane: Day on Which Vasil Levski Passed Into Immortality Is One of Most Sacred Days in Bulgarian History
“One of the most cherished and sacred dates in our national history is the date on which Vasil Levski passed into immortality. And that date is February 19,” said in a statement from the parliamentary rostrum Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov, on the occasion of the 153rd anniversary of Vasil Levski’s death.
“Over the past few years, we have witnessed how the name of Vasil Levski has been dragged into election campaigns and into the “unscrupulous campaign for the introduction of Europe’s foreign currency,” commented Kostadin Kostadinov.
“And do you know what the national ideal was that Levski formulated at the time? ‘A free and independent Bulgaria’ - that is what he wanted and what he gave his life for,” the MP said. Today, according to him, a large part of the Bulgarian political elite explains to us that Bulgaria can be neither free nor independent. Those who say this are traitors, Kostadinov stressed.
“We must not forget one very simple thing - Levski expressed the quintessence of Bulgarian nationalism and of the Bulgarian national interest: ‘We want nothing that belongs to others; we will not give up anything that is ours.’ This is the message he left us,” stressed the Vazrazhdane leader.
