A GERB–UDF declaration stated that February 18 is a day for monuments, but it must also be a day for merciless reassessment, as read by MP Georgi Krastev on Wednesday on the occasion of the 153rd anniversary of the death of revolutionary Vasil Levski.

“If Vasil Ivanov Kunchev were to enter this chamber, he would see a hall full of officials serving their own egos. Levski was not only a dreamer, but the most precise and most ruthless strategic mind this land has ever produced,” the declaration states. “Before demanding freedom, he imposed discipline,” Krastev emphasized.

The ideal is not merely an ornament; it is the backbone of the state, the MP pointed out. “Levski left us something that is in critical deficit here — the renunciation of the personal ‘I’ in the name of the final result,” he stressed. “Here we preach: ‘If I win, I win for myself; if I lose, the whole nation loses.’ That is parasitism on the back of the entire state,” the declaration underlines. “The pure and sacred republic is a harsh standard of professional hygiene. The freedom for which he was hanged is the responsibility to be sovereign,” Georgi Krastev said.

“Stop using his name as a shield for your own needs,” the GERB–UDF MP addressed the chamber. “A lone wolf in politics is simply a predator stalking its prey. Morality is not a topic for Sunday sermons, but a matter of pure statesmanlike logic,” he argued. “When we work as a system, we can survive as a nation,” the declaration further states.
