A total of BGN 238 million was allocated by the Council of Ministers to pay overdue indexations to companies working on railway infrastructure repairs and new construction, Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov said during a briefing at the Council of Ministers on Wednesday.
These indexations date back to June 2021. The funds will help address issues that have remained unresolved for the past three years, Karadjov said. He pointed out that progress on several sites has been slow because contractors lacked operating funds. Karadjov explained that this issue was raised when he became transport minister, but it had not been resolved until now. "With the Council of Ministers’ decision, funding and construction on key railway infrastructure sites will move forward," he said.
The projects involve repairing the Voluyak-Dragoman railway line, upgrading the Elin Pelin-Kostenets (Central Western Bulgaria) line including its tunnels, continuing with phase two of the Plovdiv (South Central Bulgaria) - Burgas (on the Black Sea) section, improving the Kostenets-Septemvri (Southern Bulgaria) segment, and modernizing the traction substations in Varna (on the Black Sea), Ruse (on the Danube), and Razgrad (Northeastern Bulgaria). Karadjov said he hopes that work on these sites will now progress more quickly.
