Milena Dimitrova has been named the recipient of the Maxim Minchev Award, presented by the Bulgarian Association of Journalists and Travel Writers (ABUJET). The award ceremony took place Wednesday at the Maxim Hall of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).
Maxim Minchev was BTA's Director General from 2003 to 2020, when he succumbed to COVID.
Dimitrova was honored for her lifetime contribution and high professional achievements in journalism and non-fiction. She could not attend the event and the award was presented to her mother, journalist Bozhana Dimitrova, by the first winner of the prize, Magdalena Gigova.
“Milena writes with knowledge, heart, and deep understanding,” said Gigova during the ceremony, wishing her health and time to continue traveling and writing.
In a video message, Dimitrova shared her gratitude. “I never imagined that the Maxim Minchev Award would bring me such joy. Thank you to all friends and colleagues at ABUJET. I accept this as a great honor. I am proud to follow in the footsteps of those who founded our club: all of them remarkable writers. My deep respect also to Maxim Minchev, who remains our enduring symbol.”
Milena Dimitrova is a seasoned journalist and author. She graduated with honors in radio journalism from Sofia University and has worked in the national print media for over two decades. Her career includes studies and internships in France, Switzerland, and the U.S., a PhD in parliamentary journalism, and a stint in European institutions. She has led international media projects. Currently, she works in the public administration.
