Sozopol – Central Beach is among Bulgarian sites that have received the international environmental Blue Flag Award for 2025. Arrangements for the summer season have already begun with lifeguard and medical stations being prepared.
The beach concessionaire has built accessible infrastructure for people with disabilities, such as ramps and special walkways, which are among the mandatory requirements for the Blue Flag programme. Informational boards with safety instructions and details about the waste management system and regular monitoring of seawater quality have also been installed.
“We come here every summer - it’s clean, well-maintained, and we feel safe because there are lifeguards,” said tourists strolling along the beach.
“I’m impressed by how clean the sea water is in Sozopol. This award is well-deserved,” commented a tourist from Germany, who was visiting Sozopol for the second time.
The “Blue Flag” distinction is awarded annually by the international Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), based in Copenhagen, Denmark. In Bulgaria, the programme is coordinated by the Bulgarian Blue Flag Movement.
BTA is presenting all 30 Bulgarian beaches and harbours awarded the Blue Flag by the international jury of the Programme in Copenhagen. It is the 30th anniversary of the first award for the country - the pilot Blue Flag was raised on Sunny Beach on July 4, 1995.
