The deadline for the implementation of the activities under the National Programme for Polar Studies “From Pole to Pole” 2022-2025 has been extended until the end of 2027, the Council of Ministers decided at its regular sitting on Wednesday. The financing of modern scientific research in Antarctica and the Arctic, attracting young scientists in order to increase Bulgaria’s research potential are among its main objectives. Six projects have been approved, and the deadline for their implementation will be 2025-2027.

In February 2025, the new scientific laboratory building was opened on Livingston Island. It will house three specialized laboratories, which will help expand the scope of scientific research in Antarctica.

The total budget of the programme is BGN 10,800,000, and the extension of its deadline will allow the implementation of the planned activities under the projects without additional funding.
