Smyadovo Municipality is implementing 113 projects worth over BGN 57 million, Deputy Mayor Dimitrina Marinova said during a local conference held here on Wednesday. The event was part of BTA’s Europe on Balkans: Cohesion Skills project.
She noted that 42 of those projects are European-funded, worth BGN 32.8 million, adding that as a small municipality, Smyadovo takes advantage of every opportunity for external financing to improve the environment in which its residents live, as well as to provide employment.
In recent years the Municipality has been actively working to implement projects financed by European and national programmes, Marinova emphasized, pointing out that they are aimed at improving infrastructure, promoting education, culture, social inclusion and environmental protection.
Among the significant projects that the municipality has implemented and is currently implementing, Marinova noted the replacement of the water supply network for drinking and domestic water supply in the villages of Rish and Yankovo, the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the street network in Smyadovo and Rish, the rehabilitation of four municipal roads, the introduction of energy efficiency measures in two administrative buildings and five multi-profile residential buildings.
A large part of the projects are in support of socially vulnerable groups, Marinova said. "In the area of waste management, we implemented a project for effective waste management in Smyadovo Municipality, through which we implemented a number of good practices for preventing waste generation and for separate waste collection," she emphasized.
As a challenge for the municipal leadership, she pointed out the implementation of a project for the introduction of integrated measures in support of vulnerable groups in the municipalities of Smyadovo, Vetrino and Bolyarovo, in which, two non-governmental organizations and one foreign partner participated as well. Marinova stated that other partnership projects are also to be implemented within the framework of the Integrated Territorial Investments, financed by the Regional Development Programme 2021-2027.
