Four areas on the Greek island of Paros have been evacuated because of a wildfire, Greek news outlet Proto Thema reported on Tuesday.

According to the authorities, the fire is burning low vegetation and waste. At this stage, it does not threaten residential buildings, but residents of the four areas received evacuation alerts through Greece's national 112 emergency warning system as a precaution.

Dozens of firefighters supported by fire engines are battling the blaze. Two firefighting aircraft and one helicopter have also been deployed.

Additional firefighting crews are travelling to Paros by ferry from the nearby island of Naxos to reinforce the operation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
