Kazanlak is among the ten best-developing towns in Bulgaria, which is mainly due to the economy, but also to tourism and the town's cultural sphere, Kazanlak Municipal Council Chair Nikolay Zlatanov said during a local conference held here on Wednesday. The event was part of BTA’s Europe on Balkans: Cohesion Skills project.

He pointed out that the revenues from local taxes and fees amount to about BGN 10 million and that attracting about EUR 100 million for various projects is life-saving for Kazanlak, just like for every municipality in Bulgaria.

Zlatanov noted the successful development of the Municipality and the attraction of European funds despite serious competition between municipalities is due to the good communication between the Municipal Council and the Municipal Administration, which is led by Kazanlak Mayor Galina Stoyanova. "All projects that come to the Kazanlak Municipal Council and need the approval of the councilors are voted unanimously despite the (differences of) political groups, which are numerous, and represent the entire palette of current political developments in the country. This shows that regardless of the political positions that individual parties hold, when it comes to something reasonable and useful, namely the attraction of European funds, then we all stand together and support," Zlatanov emphasized.

He said that Kazanlak is twinned with 18 towns around the world, including the Chinese city of Jinan, which has a population of seven million people, while Kazanlak Municipality has approximately 70,000 residents. "When, with joint efforts, we all work for one goal and in one direction, a 70,000 people municipality can be twinned and be a worthy partner of a 7 million people Chinese city," he stressed.
