“A new destructive war in the Middle East would be bad for everyone — it is bad for Bulgaria and bad for Europe. Therefore, I hope that the Bulgarian authorities are doing everything possible to keep our country and the continent away from military conflicts,” said BSP leader Krum Zarkov on Monday, speaking to journalists about tensions in the Middle East and US planes at Sofia Airport.
According to him, Bulgarian authorities have an obligation to provide sufficient information to citizens so that they do not worry. “There is tension in Bulgarian society,” Zarkov noted. In his view, such unilateral attacks usually lead to nothing good.
When asked whether a National Security Consultative Council should be convened, Zarkov replied that everyone must know their role and act within their authority and competence. “President Yotova will convene the Council if she decides it is necessary. We should not politicize the situation unnecessarily or play on people’s fears, but at the same time, legitimate concerns of Bulgarian citizens should not be underestimated. That is why our call is for calm, professionalism, and transparency,” said the BSP leader.
Earlier in the day, the BSP-United Left coalition submitted documents and 7,930 signatures to the Central Election Commission to register for participation in the early parliamentary elections scheduled for April 19 this year.
