Vazrazhdane submitted a motion Monday for an emergency Parliament meeting the same day, following the escalation of the Iran conflict, the press centre of the party reported. They urge the rest of the political formations to sign the request, as it must be supported by at least one-fifth of the MPs, according to Article 78 of the Constitution. Vazrazhdane strongly encourages the Parliament Chair as well to convene a meeting immediately.
According to this parliamentary group, the agenda should include a draft decision on taking diplomatic and legal actions in cases of participation, assistance or use of Bulgaria's territory, airspace or maritime areas for military actions against a third country. The draft decision was submitted on February 27 by MPs.
As grounds for convening an extraordinary session, this party points to the complicated and tense international situation, with military actions approaching Bulgaria. They site an Iranian attack on a UK military base in Cyprus. As an additional argument, the document highlights what Vazrazhdane sees as involvement of the Bulgarian state with US military aircraft and army personnel deployed at Sofia Airport until the end of May.
The parliamentary group insists that the National Assembly should express a clear position and take actions to ensure that Bulgaria’s territory, airspace, and maritime areas are not used to draw the country into a military conflict.
