Caretaker Foreign Minister Nadezhda Neynsky spoke by phone with her counterparts from Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) about the situation in the Middle East, the Ministry reported Monday on its website.
Neynsky discussed the latest developments in the Middle East with Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdelatty, with the two uniting around the need for de-escalation of tensions in the region. She welcomed Egypt’s role as a stabilizing factor in the region and the country’s constructive efforts to find lasting solutions to a number of regional challenges, including the situation in Gaza.
At the initiative of the Bulgarian side, a telephone conversation was also held with the UAE’s Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Neynsky strongly condemned the Iranian attacks against the territory and sovereignty of the UAE and expressed solidarity with the Emirati people at this critical moment. She expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Emirati side to ensure the safety of all Bulgarian citizens currently on the territory of the UAE, noting that Bulgaria will continue to rely on such assistance.
Earlier on Monday, Neynsky held talks with Turkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. On Sunday, she held phone conversations with her counterparts from Israel, Kuwait and Jordan.
On Saturday, the United States and Israel launched a large-scale attack against Iran, and U.S. President Donald Trump called on the Iranian public to “take control of its own destiny,” the Associated Press reported. During a strike carried out as part of the joint Israeli-American attacks, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed.
