President Iliana Iotova, National Assembly Chair Raya Nazaryan and Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov will mark Bulgaria's National Day with ceremonies at Shipka Peak and in Sofia on Tuesday, their press services said on Monday.
The programme includes a national flag-raising ceremony outside the St Alexander Nevsky Memorial Church at 11:00 and a ceremonial military tattoo at National Assembly Square at 18:30.
The flag-raising ceremony will take place outside the St Alexander Nevsky Memorial Church. Gurov will inspect the honor guard of Bulgarian Army representative units, and those in attendance will pay tribute to Bulgarians who died for the country’s freedom.
Gurov will also attend the ceremonial military tattoo at National Assembly Square at 18:30. Nazaryan and members of parliament will also be present at the event, marking 148 years since Bulgaria’s Liberation.
Iotova will honor the memory and heroism of the Bulgarian volunteers and soldiers who died for Bulgaria’s freedom at Shipka Peak. She will inspect the honor guard of Bulgarian Army representative units, deliver an address, and then lay a wreath at the Freedom Monument.
In the evening, Iotova will attend the military tattoo at National Assembly Square, where she will inspect the honor guard and deliver an address. Later, she will host the traditional reception at the Central Military Club in Sofia.
Sofia Municipality has implemented temporary traffic arrangements for the National Day celebrations. Traffic through Shipka Pass on Road I-5/E-85 (Gabrovo-Shipka Peak-Kazanlak) will be restricted in both directions from 20:00 on March 2, 2026 until 18:00 on March 3, 2026.
