The prosecutor’s office and the Interior Ministry said on Monday that authorities seized 423 kg of marijuana in January and detained 786 people for drug-related offences, including production and trafficking.

Police conducted more than 494 specialized operations and initiated 703 pre-trial proceedings. They also discovered five laboratories and sites used to produce and cultivate narcotic substances.

In efforts to combat illegal migration, authorities conducted 382 specialized operations and detained 12 third-country nationals residing illegally in Bulgaria. They initiated 48 new pre-trial proceedings related to illegal migration and detained 217 individuals for illegal border crossing and for facilitating the residence or transit of foreign nationals in or through the country.

In January 2026, courts issued 306 final judgments for drug-related crimes and 128 for illegal border crossing and for facilitating the residence or transit of foreign nationals in or through the country.

In December 2025, authorities detained 841 people and carried out 633 specialized police operations to combat the possession and distribution of narcotics. They seized more than 124 kg of marijuana and discovered three laboratories and sites used to produce and cultivate narcotics. As a result, they initiated 757 pre-trial proceedings.
