Starting August 15 until August 14, 2028, Bulgarian citizens can travel to Vietnam visa-free for tourism purposes for a period of up to 45 days, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on its website here on Friday. The condition is that travelers must meet the other entry requirements, including holding a valid passport with at least six months’ validity before the planned date of departure from Vietnam.

Bulgarian citizens holding ordinary passports and traveling to Vietnam for purposes other than tourism can obtain a visa through the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Sofia.

If an extension of visa validity or a continuation of stay (beyond 45 days) is required, Bulgarian citizens can contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.

Under a government decision of Vietnam, adopted on August 8, visa facilitation was granted to citizens of Bulgaria, Belgium, Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland. The decision will be in effect from August 15, 2025, to August 14, 2028, as part of Vietnam’s program to promote and develop tourism.

On August 8, the Vietnamese government also adopted a decision to abolish visas for a limited time for foreign nationals from specially designated categories whose presence is considered beneficial for the country’s socio-economic development.

On February 8 this year, Bulgaria and Vietnam marked 75 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations at the legation level in 1950. On November 25, 1956, the two countries upgraded their relations to embassy level.

Under an intergovernmental agreement from 1980, over a 10-year period, 35,000 Vietnamese citizens worked in Bulgaria, and 5,000 completed higher education in Bulgaria. Many Vietnamese graduates of Bulgarian universities went on to hold important positions in Vietnam’s business sector and state administration. They have provided a solid foundation for the further development of bilateral relations between the two countries. At present, about 1,200 Vietnamese citizens live and work in Bulgaria.
