The 11th Agra, Vinaria, Foodtech exhibitions were opened at the Plovdiv International Fair on Tuesday. The forum, which will be held until February 21, brings together leading companies and new technologies in agriculture, the wine-growing industry and the food industry.

Over the years, the Agra, Vinaria, Foodtech exhibitions have built up authority and popularity, which attracts producers and traders far beyond the borders of Bulgaria, Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Yanislav Yanchev said during the opening of the forum. He pointed out that the event allows world leaders in the production of modern machinery and high technologies for agriculture, as well as producers of quality agricultural products, food and wines to showcase their work, noting that among the exhibitors are both established names and smaller companies that are making their way on the market with new ideas, vision and innovative products.

Plovdiv International Fair General Director Prof. Ivan Sokolov noted that the Vinaria exhibition records a 20% growth with over 150 exhibitors from 10 countries participating this year. The Foodtech exhibition is also developing and growing, with 153 manufacturers and traders from eight countries participating. He pointed out that the accompanying programme includes over 30 events, including various business forums, where new products and innovations will be presented.

Krasimir Koev, Executive Director of the Executive Agency for Vine and Wine, pointed out that the winemaking sector in Bulgaria is modernizing, with 77% of those employed being under the age of 50. He noted that 365 wineries operate in Bulgaria, which harvested and processed over 63 million litres of wine in in 2025. On an annual basis, about 112 million litres are sold in Bulgaria, while the exports amount to more than 16 million litres, Koev stated, adding that the volume of exports remains relatively low.

Bulgaria's agriculture is going through a difficult period, with the 11th Agra, Vinaria and Foodtech exhibitions being a good prerequisite for establishing contacts with agricultural producers, Agricultural Academy (AA) chair Dr. Stefan Gandev emphasized. He recalled that the AA was founded in 1961 and has created many varieties that have subsequently entered practice. It is these varieties that have formed the good taste of Bulgarians for quality production, he said.

The 11th Agra, Vinaria, Foodtech exhibitions are organized by the Plovdiv International Fair and are held under the auspices of the Agriculture and Food Ministry. The co-organizers of the forum are AGROTECH, the Agricultural Academy, the Union of Oenologists and the Plovdiv University of Food Technologies.
