Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh met with Miguel Alonso Berrio, Spanish Ambassador to Bulgaria, the press service of the Ministry of Tourism said on Tuesday.
The two officials discussed opportunities for deepening bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector, as well as concrete initiatives to expand the partnership between the institutions and the tourism business in the two countries.
"Spain is one of our key partners in tourism. We are happy to observe a steady growth of Spanish tourists in Bulgaria - in 2024 their number exceeded 112,000, and in the first quarter of 2025 alone Bulgaria was visited by nearly 20,000 Spanish tourists. I believe that this interest will continue to grow through joint projects and initiatives," Borshosh noted.
Among the main topics were cultural and urban tourism - the leading incentives for Spanish tourists to visit Bulgaria. The Tourism Minister noted that among the most preferred destinations by them were Sofia Municipality, Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo and Burgas.
The possibility of organizing a B2B forum in Sofia with the participation of representatives of the tourism business from Bulgaria and Spain as a step towards closer cooperation was also discussed during the meeting.
