An exhibition of Fashion Design students from the National Academy of Art in Sofia is on display at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin. The exhibition, entitled "FASHION 2025. CIRCLE in*, SYMBIOSIS and SURREALISM," is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Fashion Design programme at the National Academy of Art and showcases completed coursework and diploma projects by alumni.
The exhibition was unveiled on Thursday, the Bulgarian Cultural Institute said on Facebook, sharing photos from the event.
According to information by the National Academy of Art, the exhibition has three themes. The theme CIRCLE in* weaves the principles of the circular economy into three different sub-themes: Urban Techno-Conformity, Reimagined Cultural Heritage, and The Nature Cycle in Fashion. The work of the graduating students represents a commitment to rethinking the future of fashion through innovative and responsible practices in order to create contemporary, functional, original fashion collections with opportunities to be actually applicable in contemporary urban environment.
SYMBIOSIS is an interdisciplinary project, which unites students from the National Academy of Art with the aim to explore and create a bridge between art and nature. The main message of this segment is bound to biodiversity. The project involves creating fashion garments inspired by exhibits from the National Museum of Natural History, with students focusing on developing garments with minimal waste.
The SURREALISM collection was created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Surrealism art movement. The theme is visually unified in gray, as students interpret the movement's legacy through experiments with silhouette, structures, construction, and technological solutions.
