Torrential rains over the past two days in Romania have affected 21 settlements in five counties, causing floods and landslides, the Department for Emergency Situations said in information sent to BTA.
Courtyards of residential buildings have been flooded, while many municipal roads have been blocked by debris and sediment.
The situation is most severe in Prahova and Buzau counties in the southern and southeastern parts of the country, where the highest-level weather warning (red code) has been issued. Residents of Vernesti and Tisau also received alerts via the RO-ALERT system.
In the Mieria area of Buzau, several households have been completely cut off due to the rising level of the Nișcov River. Specialized equipment has been deployed on site to restore safe access to the settlement.
Authorities have urged local residents to exercise caution and follow official instructions.
Meanwhile, the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management has issued flood-risk warnings for several rivers in Romania’s Moldova and Wallachia regions.
Weather conditions remain unstable in Bucharest as well, where rain fell throughout the night, followed by sleet early in the morning.
