In a Facebook post, GERB Chair Boyko Borissov urged President Iliana Iotova to conclude consultations and appoint a caretaker prime minister.

“From what I can see, that prime minister will belong to Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria and [MRF–New Beginning Chair Delyan] Peevski, since they voted together for Andrey Gurov,” Borissov argued.

“I have no objections to whoever Iotova chooses, but this must happen immediately, because the state is not functioning and, in this situation, there is no one to take responsibility,” Borissov stressed.

“The price of electricity is rising, and the government has an obligation to ensure electricity supply – after that, the independent regulator sets the prices,” the GERB leader said, adding that electricity bills fall under the responsibility of the distribution companies and the independent regulator, the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC). “I insist that the EWRC get out of their comfortable office chairs and start carrying out inspections,” Borissov added.

Borissov described the current situation in the country as one in which Rumen Radev has resigned as president, the government has resigned, and parliament is unable to function because it is being used for election campaign purposes.
