site.btaSilistra Municipality Fines Company for Poor Winter Road Maintenance

Silistra Municipality has imposed a fine of nearly EUR 9,000 on the company responsible for winter road maintenance in the municipality, Mayor Aleksandar Sabanov told BTA on Thursday. The fine amounts to 20% of the contract value for implementing the activity.

Sabanov emphasized that the municipal administration conducted inspections, which established streets in Silistra had not been cleaned to the necessary extent, as evidenced by numerous reports from residents.

"We are imposing the fine in connection with the dozens of reports from dissatisfied residents about uncleaned and unprocessed streets in the town and villages. We hope that it will serve as a preventive measure for the next contractor to comply with the conditions and deadlines," the mayor pointed out.

The latest snowfall was a serious challenge for Silistra, as according to official data, the snow cover reached around 40 centimetres, which had not been observed in recent years.
