After a meeting of the Security Council with the Council of Ministers here on Thursday, There Is Such a People (TISP) Floor Leader Toshko Yordanov told reporters that while there is certain data that cannot be shared with the public, the caretaker cabinet is not being honest with the Bulgarian people and was not honest with parliament either.
Yordanov accused the cabinet of trying to wriggle out of the questions they were asked. He added that many Bulgarians are asking questions because of the information available about American aircraft at Sofia Airport, as well as because of the tensions and military actions related to Iran.
Yordanov described the recent events surrounding Iran as a conflict that was not provoked by Bulgaria and that is not a NATO operation. He emphasized that in such a situation, Bulgaria's defence is mainly linked to its membership in the Alliance. He added: "Our only defence is our membership in NATO." Yordanov stated that Bulgaria's air defence had been "donated" to Ukraine. He criticized the cabinet for changing its wording on the situation – from assurances that there was no problem to acknowledging that more serious risks exist.
The MP expressed concern about the presence of US aircraft at Sofia airport. Yordanov added that there were risks for Bulgaria related to the conflict in the Middle East and expressed hope that they would remain solely of economic nature.
