The MECh parliamentary group will sign the motion of no confidence proposed by Vazrazhdane over the government’s fiscal policy, MECh leader Radostin Vasilev told journalists in the parliamentary lobby on Wednesday.

Vasilev said that last Friday, the parliamentary group had received an invitation from Vazrazhdane and the reasons for the vote related to the fiscal policy of the cabinet, and decided to support the no-confidence vote, regardless of the insults uttered by Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov and Vazrazhdane MP Tsoncho Ganev against MECh.

“We had a gentlemen's agreement with Vazrazhdane and Velichie to support each other's no-confidence votes. Apparently, there will be no such agreement between Vazrazhdane and Velichie. If Vazrazhdane and Velichie do not come to an agreement, we will initiate a vote of no confidence on the topic of the failure of [Interior Minister] Daniel Mitov and the domestic policy of the state,” Vasilev added.

According to him, MECh is trying to fully unite the so-called opposition in Parliament, but the possible partners are fewer and more divided. "We see in the parliamentary hall that Continue the Change (CC) and Democratic Bulgaria (DB) are separate parliamentary groups. They do not talk to each other. That’s normal, everyone runs from the leper. But CC’s decline is visible due to corruption dependencies," Vasilev added.

He said that MECh is watching with great concern the media coverage about corruption practices in CC. “It is getting difficult for us in the National Assembly to find partners with whom we can unite to fight corruption, fight monopolies,” he added, “when serious corruption scandals are happening in the second largest parliamentary group. The rift there is already irreparable. The rift that this entity will cause among Bulgarian citizens is even worse, because people no longer trust the opposition,” Vasilev added.

Regarding the draft report on the Republic of North Macedonia’s EU accession progress, Vasilev said that it was a huge diplomatic failure for Bulgaria. “The policy of Orban and Hungary has been against Bulgaria's interests in the Republic of North Macedonia for a long time,” Vasilev added. North Macedonia cannot be part of the EU while the authorities pursue people who believe in their Bulgarian identity, Vasilev said, adding that it is scary when the president and prime minister of the country have come to power with anti-Bulgarian rhetoric. It is even scarier when people with liberal values in Bulgaria undermine the faith of the local population, which claims to be Bulgarian in its own country, he added.

Vasilev also said that MECh would support the anti-speculation bill proposed by civil organizations.
