site.btaBulgaria’s Agriculture Accounts for 1.8% of GDP in 2024
The agricultural sector accounted for 1.2% of the European Union’s GDP in 2024, new data from Eurostat showed on Monday. The share was up by 0.1 percentage points compared with 2009.
The share of agriculture’s value added in GDP was highest in Greece (3.2%), Romania (2.5%) and Spain (2.3%). Bulgaria, Italy and Croatia followed at 1.8% each. In 12 EU countries, agriculture’s value added accounted for less than 1% of GDP. The lowest shares were recorded in Luxembourg and Malta, at 0.2% each.
Between 2009 and 2024, the share of agriculture’s value added in GDP increased in 15 EU countries. The largest increases were recorded in Greece (0.9 percentage points), Latvia (0.6 percentage points) and Spain (0.5 percentage points). The steepest declines were observed in Romania (-2.2 percentage points), Bulgaria (-1.4 percentage points), and Malta and Croatia (-0.7 percentage points each).
