Speaking during an inspection of the progress of repair works at Chairа Pumped Storage Hydropower Plant on Saturday, caretaker Energy Minister Traicho Traikov said that consumers who have filed substantiated complaints about inflated electricity bills will be compensated.

He added that during a meeting he held with Plamen Mladenovski, Chair of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, on Friday, he was informed him about the progress of inspections into December electricity bills, which prompted numerous complaints.

Traikov said the inspections were ongoing, with final results expected by the end of February or early March. He noted that the cases varied, but a significant portion of the complaints were well-founded. Once the causes are clarified, compensation will be provided to affected consumers, he added.

The billing system software is being analyzed in an independent laboratory to determine what led to the discrepancies in the amounts charged, the Minister said.
