Travelling festival Frequenza will take place in Bulgaria for the first time at the Bulgaria Concert Hall from May 7 to 10, the event’s partners from the Sofia Philharmonic announced.
The Frequenza festival brings together different musical styles, generations, and ideas. Created as a platform for dialogue between classical tradition and contemporary sensibilities, the festival gathers leading international musicians around chamber music.
Under the artistic direction of trumpeter Sergei Nakariakov and pianist Maria Meerovich, the programme features a variety of instruments – from strings to piano and brass, and a repertoire ranging from Bach and Beethoven to contemporary music, including improvisation. The concerts include a grand opening with the Sofia Philharmonic, chamber performances, experimental programmes, and a final concert featuring all participants.
The festival also features an educational component through masterclasses open to the public, while the Bulgaria Concert Hall remains a central venue for classical music in Sofia.
Born in 1977 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, Sergei Nakariakov is known as the “Paganini of the Trumpet” and the “Caruso of the Trumpet”. His repertoire includes original trumpet works, transcriptions, and commissioned pieces. Maria Meerovich, born in 1969, began her musical education at the age of six and performed with the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic at the age of eight. The Nakariakov-Meerovich duo has been acclaimed by critics for more than two decades on prestigious stages worldwide.
