Yes, Bulgaria co-chair Bozhidar Bozhanov called on GERB to debate Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB)’s bill to expand the powers of mayors in small settlements on Monday.
Bozhanov posted on social media after GERB leader Boyko Borissov met mayors in Stara Zagora earlier in the day and spoke about giving them more authority.
Bozhanov wrote that parties’ programme pledges would be crucial in the campaign. “We can see Borissov has gathered mayors to explain what GERB is only now planning to do,” Bozhanov added.
Earlier on Monday, Borissov met with mayors elected on GERB’s ticket in Stara Zagora (South Central Bulgaria).
Bozhanov argued that Borissov planned to give more powers to mayors in small settlements. “He is missing an important detail, we have already tabled such a bill. It was drafted together with mayors in small settlements, who are closest to people,” Bozhanov said.
Bozhanov wrote that where GERB were only now setting out proposals for the next election, CC-DB already had ready-made legislative solutions and practical measures for the executive as well.
“GERB can freely copy our initiatives, but the ones that are ready and already tabled in parliament should be backed by this parliament, so we can get the job done now and not tell mayors we will only do it later,” Bozhanov added.
