A National Programme for the Prevention of Rotavirus Gastroenteritis through Vaccination in Bulgaria 2026-2030 was adopted by the Cabinet on Tuesday. It builds on activities implemented under two consecutive programme periods and has been developed in line with the European Immunisation Agenda 2030, as well as the national health priorities set out in the National Health Strategy 2030.

The programme aims to reduce the incidence of rotavirus gastroenteritis, including severe cases requiring hospitalization, through recommended vaccination of infants from six weeks of age, while ensuring parents' right to accessible preventive care for their children without imposing obligations. Vaccination coverage among eligible infants is planned to increase gradually from 52% in 2026 to 65% in 2030, alongside public awareness-raising campaigns.
