Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) and the British energy giant BP have signed a strategic partnership agreement on Thursday to develop oil and gas fields in Turkiye as reported by Turkish state television TRT Haber. The agreement covers the development of oil and natural gas fields, the assessment of regions with potential for the discovery of deposits, and cooperation in export, infrastructure for oil and natural gas transmission, at regional and international levels.

The agreements were signed at a ceremony in Istanbul by Cem Erdem, the General-Director of TPAO, and Andrew McAuslan, Head of International Oil and Gas Business Development at British Petroleum.

Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that the aim is for TPAO to achieve a production capacity of 1 million barrels and that the collaboration between the two oil companies should extend to other countries.

"One of our most important and priority projects is our cooperation in Iraq. Specifically, the Kirkuk field. Another common topic for us is Libya. We are considering joint cooperation there as well. We are also discussing various projects in Central Asia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. I believe that we will achieve concrete results in this area this year and share them with the public," said the Turkish Minister of Energy, as quoted by TRT Haber.

The Turkish state oil company has also signed agreements with other major international companies for joint activities, including ExxonMobil's subsidiary ESSO Exploration International Limited and the American company Chevron.
