Bulgaria has the potential to increase its competitiveness in the automotive industry by expanding its contribution to the sector, outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov told German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the Council of Ministers announced in a Facebook post on Thursday.
The two spoke at an informal meeting of EU leaders in Liege, Belgium. "The country has the capacity to transition from a component producer to a developer of high-tech solutions," Zhelyazkov is quoted as saying.
He stated that Bulgaria is open to investments in high-tech production and services with medium and high added value, such as the automotive industry, electronics, IT, and outsourcing, thanks to its potential in computer science and artificial intelligence, and its positioning as a competitive player in Europe’s innovation-driven industries.
The discussions covered opportunities for investment in sectors such as electronics, IT, outsourcing, and advanced manufacturing, leveraging Bulgaria’s growing expertise in computer science and artificial intelligence, the post said.
The competitiveness of the European Union and the strengthening of the single market as a key driver of investment, innovation, and economic growth are at focus of the meeting at the Alden Biesen castle, which brought together heads of state and government.
