site.btaWholesale Vegetable Prices Fall, Fruit Prices Rise

Wholesale prices of most vegetables fell this week, according to data from the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets.

The Wholesale Food Price Index, which tracks wholesale food prices in Bulgaria, dropped by 2% to 2.691 points compared to 2.746 points a week earlier. Its base level of 1.000 points was set in 2005.

Among vegetables, cucumbers saw the steepest decline, down 14.71% to EUR 1.60 per kg, followed by onions, down 14.38% to EUR 0.50 per kg. The price of tomatoes also fell by 11.56% to EUR 2.25 per kg. Green and red peppers fell 9.21% to EUR 3.51 per kg, and 6.88% to EUR 3.44 per kg. Courgettes also saw a decline by 3.61% to 1.50 per kg, so did lettuce by 5.25% to EUR 0.90 per kg. The price of potatoes has not changed and they are sold at EUR 0.55 per kg. Carrots rose 12.54% to EUR 0.70 per kg, and cabbage 2.64% to EUR 0.70 per kg.

Among fruits, apples rose 0.95% to EUR 1.28 per kg, lemons - 2.53% to EUR 2.11 per kg. The price of oranges and bananas also increased by 2.85% to EUR 1.37 per kg, and 0.67% to EUR 1.51 per kg.

The price of cow's milk white brine cheese dropped by 0.63% to EUR 6.01 per kg, Vitosha yellow kashkaval cheese by 0.23% to EUR 9.56 per kg. Yogurt (3% or higher fat content) fell 1.45% to EUR 0.68 per 400 g cup. Butter (125 g pack) fell 5.83% to EUR 1.39 per pack. Frozen chicken meat fell 0.21% to EUR 3.73 per kg. Only the price of milk rose 0.85% to EUR 1.19 per litre. Eggs (size M) remained unchanged at EUR 0.23 a piece at wholesale.

Rice gained 3.43% to EUR 1.75 per kg. Lentils increased 1.63% to EUR 2.12 per kg. Dried beans lost 0.57% to EUR 2.11 per kg. Sugar is up 1.32% to EUR 0.92 per kg. Sunflower oil rose 0.45% to EUR 1.80 per litre, flour (grade 500) 5.82% to EUR 0.80 per kg.
