Bozhidar Saraboyukov set a new national record in the long jump with 8.45 metres during an international indoor athletics tournament in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, on Wednesday. His performance is the best in the world this season in the discipline.

The Bulgarian athlete improved his own previous best of 8.39 metres, set just three days earlier in Metz, France.

Saraboyukov achieved this mark on his fifth attempt. He topped the world ranking for the season, having previously shared the top spot with the current indoor and outdoor world champion, Mattia Furlani, who had jumped 8.39 metres.

Saraboyukov defeated all-time long jump champion Miltiadis Tentoglou (Greece), who finished second with 8.27 metres, while the indoor World Championships bronze medalist from Glasgow 2024, Carey McLeod (Jamaica), took third with 8.22 metres.
