Bulgarian alpine skier Kalin Zlatkov finished 36th in the men's giant slalom on his Olympic debut at the Milan Cortina Olympics. The 25-year-old posted a combined time of 2:39.08 minutes on the Stelvio piste, after placing 40th in the first run with a time of 1:22.32.

The second run was held in heavy snowfall, fog and reduced visibility, particularly in the upper section of the course. Zlatkov finished 14.08 seconds behind the champion, Lucas Pinheiro Braathen of Brazil.

The 25-year-old Pinheiro Braathen, who held a commanding lead of almost a second after the first run, produced another solid performance in his second descent to win in a time of 2:25.00 minutes. The result delivered a historic first medal, and first gold, for Brazil at Winter Olympic Games. Braathen was born in Oslo and began his career competing for Norway, but has represented his mother's homeland Brazil since 2024.

Marco Odermatt of Switzerland finished second, 0.58 seconds behind the winner, to claim the fourth Olympic medal of his career, three of them at the Milan Cortina Olympics, where he has won silver in the team combined and in the giant slalom, as well as bronze in the super-G.

The world vice-champion in the discipline from Courchevel 2023, Loic Meillard of Switzerland, placed third, 1.17 seconds behind the winner. It was Meillard's second medal at the Games, following silver in the team combined, won in tandem with Odermatt.
