Bulgaria’s tourism sector is presented with a stand at the spring international tourism exhibition in Bucharest, which opened on Thursday. The event is being held at the largest exhibition centre in the Romanian capital, Romexpo, and Bulgaria’s stand covers an area of 400 square metres.
In an interview with BTA, Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Romania, Radko Vlaykov, said: “Every year our stand becomes more attractive. It is traditionally the largest at the tourism fair in Bucharest and leaves a strong impression on everyone – not only on Romanian tour operators, but also on representatives from other countries. All of this shows the importance we, as a state, attach to Romania as our largest tourist market. Last year we recorded an increase of nearly 10% and we are constantly striving for more. The message we want to send is that Bulgaria is a wonderful tourist destination with many different elements of tourism – seaside tourism, ski tourism, spa tourism, wine tourism, and cultural tourism.”
The head of the Trade and Economic Affairs Office at the Bulgarian Embassy in Romania, Ivaylo Marinov, added: “We have 31 exhibitors, including six municipalities, hoteliers, and tour operators from across the country. This year we also have a new visual concept for the stand. We are placing the greatest emphasis on cultural tourism and crafts.” He added that the goal is for Bulgaria to be established as a year-round destination. He also reported that in 2025 there were about 970,000 visits by Romanians to Bulgaria, representing an increase of 8.6%.
“When we also include the December holidays, we expect to have around a 9% increase in Romanian tourists. I would say this is a serious rise against the background of what is happening in Europe and the declines reported by other countries,” Marinov explained.
The exhibition is open to visitors from Thursday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 18 a.m. EET, and on Sunday from 10:00 to 16:00. The entrance ticket costs RON 20 (EUR 4).
