The Romanian government announced that on Thursday, June 8, it will adopt a Memorandum that will guarantee the political decision to raise teachers' salaries, it emerged after a telephone conversation with representatives of the trade unions in the education system. "The memorandum will be adopted at a Government meeting and will be published in the Official Gazette of Romania. The governmental guarantees included in the Memorandum are also assumed at the level of the governing coalition," reads the press release, also sent to BTA.
Despite the government's decision to guarantee an increase in teachers' salaries through a memorandum, the general strike continues due to previous signed agreements that have not been honoured. On Thursday or Friday, the teachers are again going out on protest. Some 20,000 are expected to join the demonstration.
